Louisiana contractor licensing under La. R.S. 37:2150.1 and 37:2163; statutory exceptions and classification-specific requirements apply.
Thresholds and scope
The contractor definition includes commercial projects and new residential structures valued at $50,000 or more; existing-residential improvements/repairs and mold remediation at $7,500 or more; hazardous-materials work at $1 or more.
The rules
- Project value includes labor, materials, rentals, and direct and indirect expenses, regardless of who pays them or whether they are donated. Source
- A person acting as a contractor as defined in the chapter must hold an active license unless a statutory exception applies. Source
- The chapter has specific exemptions; a threshold alone does not determine whether the particular person and work require licensure. Source
